Application for interruption of studies

Citation of the articles governing this application:

Article 53 Interruption at the request of the student

(1) The dean shall, at the request of the student, interrupt the student’s studies if

a) the student has submitted a request for interruption of studies before the beginning of the academic year for the duration of which the studies are to be interrupted,

(b) the interruption of studies does not exceed the maximum total period of interruption of studies; and

c) it is not the first year of study.

(2) Studies shall be interrupted for one or more academic years.

Article 54 Interruption at the request of the student in special cases

(1) Regardless of the conditions and period of interruption pursuant to Article 53, the Dean shall always grant a student’s request for interruption of studies in connection with pregnancy, childbirth or parenthood for the entire period of recognised parenthood pursuant to the Higher Education Act. The student shall also be granted the right to interrupt his/her studies during this period in connection with the taking into care of a child in substitution for parental care on the basis of a decision of the competent authority.

(2) For serious reasons, the dean may, at the request of a student, interrupt the student’s studies for the necessary period of time, even if the conditions set out in Article 53(1) are not fulfilled, with the exception of point (b).

Article 55 Interruption without student’s request

The dean may interrupt a student’s studies for a reasonable period of time without the student’s request if

a) the student has failed the state examination,

(b) the student has failed to pay the fees associated with the course of study, or

(c) proceedings are pending against a decision of the Dean or the Rector on the rights and obligations of the student, or proceedings on an appeal against a court decision on such an action, or proceedings on a constitutional complaint against a court decision on those matters, and the student is in the final year of study.

Article 56 Maximum total period of interruption of studies

(1) The maximum total period of interruption of studies is 2 years. The dean may decide to interrupt studies for a longer period of time for serious reasons, but not longer than 5 years.

(2) A period of interruption of studies for a recognised period of parenthood or a period of interruption of studies for a reason referred to in Article 55(c) shall not count towards the longest total period of interruption of studies.

Article 57 Re-enrolment in studies

(1) A person whose studies have been interrupted is obliged to re-enrol in his/her studies within 5 days of the end of the interruption. If a serious reason has prevented the person from re-enrolling in studies and the person excuses himself/herself from re-enrolling in studies within 3 days of the expiry of the deadline for re-enrolment in studies or of the disappearance of the obstacle preventing re-enrolment, the dean may excuse the missed deadline with the simultaneous determination of the date of extraordinary enrolment. The Dean shall make the decision to accept the excuse and his/her decision shall be final.

(2) Before the expiry of the period for which the study was interrupted, the student may re-enrol in the study

(a) a person whose studies have been interrupted pursuant to Article 55(a),

(b) a person in a recognised period of parenthood if, before the beginning of the academic year, he or she applies for re-enrolment on the first day of the academic year, unless his or her studies have been interrupted in accordance with Article 55(c).
